Dahmaco has launched a campaign against child marriage. Every year, many girls in Nigeria become brides before the age of 18. This puts them at risk of violence and early pregnancy. Often child marriage disrupts their chances of getting an education.
What is Education?
Education is the process of acquisition of knowledge and experiences, and development of skills and attitudes of an individual, which help them lead a fruitful life and contribute to the development of the society. The main purpose of education is the all-round development of individuals. Education aims to not only focus on skill development, but also on personality development to help individuals become socially responsible citizens of a country.
Why education is important.
(A) Education is a human right. Education is important for not only a holistic development of an individual, but the society as well.
(B) Education helps an individual develop the ability to think critically, understand the people around them and their surroundings, make informed decisions, and understand the consequences of their actions on themselves and others.
Education is necessary for an individual to live a fruitful life and become a responsible member of the society.
Challenges of child marriage.
There are a number of challenges which are brought forth by child marriage in Nigeria which includes the following:
1.Lost educational and career opportunities
2.Teenage pregnancy.
3.Less negotiation power in marriage.
4.Economic insecurity and continued poverty.
